Satu is a freelance artist who has raised her family of five on the Sunshine Coast of BC since 2002. She dapples in all mediums of art but has developed a particular love for working with wool.
In 2010 Satu received an award for Excellence in Craft at the Circle Craft Christmas Artisans Fair where her wool felt fish puppets received acclaim. Her fish are currently selling exclusively at Circle Craft’s Granville Island Store. Her idea for making fish arose from her son’s love of fishing. One of Satu’s many joys in working with wool felt is to make toys and decorations for children. Another, is to share her knowledge and skill with children and adults so that they too can enjoy creating beautiful items with wool.
Satu’s experience with children and art began at Art’s Umbrella, Granville Island, where she worked as an assistant in art classes such as painting, print making, and clay. She continued working as a Teacher’s Assistant in the primary grades at Collingwood Private School.
Since moving to the Sunshine Coast in 2002, Satu has raised a family of 5 and ran a small home daycare where she continued to teach Art in various mediums. Now, that her children are older, Satu focuses on making toys to sell at Granville Island and teaching children about all the wonderful qualities of working with wool.
