May 20 & 21: Natural Dyeing: Plant + Principles

In this two-day workshop you will learn what natural dye plants grow in our region, how and when to harvest them for dyeing, a brief history on plants used to create vibrant lightfast colours, how to prepare protein/cellulose fibres and fabrics to accept the most colour from natural dyes (mordanting), and how to make a natural dye bath to use for immersion dyeing. We will work on various fabrics and fleece. Please bring a book to take notes, a pair of rubber gloves, clothes that can get dirty and a snack.
