Jan Poynter

Born 1957 in Victoria, B.C., artist Jan Poynter majored in Painting and Printmaking at the Vancouver School of Art and continued in Art Education at the University of British Columbia.

A professional artist & illustrator Jan’s original work has been used for corporate, advertising, publishing and commissioned projects since she was 18 yrs old.

Jan has exhibited her work in public & retail galleries since 1979, and has been purchased for international corporate & private collections. Her bold and representational subjects range from detailed floral and interior composition, to landscape and figurative studies. Jan works expertly in several mediums (Watercolor, Acrylic, Oil & Pastel) and is an accomplished printmaker and plein air artist. She has attended courses for web, digital graphic design and marketing to keep pace with the constantly changing technology.

With almost 30 years of varied teaching experience, Jan offers local fine arts classes for Capilano College, workshops at the Arts Building in Gibsons Landing, and international travel workshops with Tours of Exploration. Active in arts and cultural organizations, Jan was a Master Pastellist with the Australian Pastel Society, a founding member of the Sunshine Coast Artists Co-operative and the Coast Cultural Alliance. She is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and also a Master Gardener.
