Verna Chan will be teaching a two-day workshop at the Arts Building on how to spin yarn using a drop-spindle. This talent led us to ask Verna, “How did you get hooked on spinning yarn?”
“I’ve been an avid knitter since a young age and have always had an interest in creating my own designs in natural fibres. While swearing I would NEVER need to spin my own yarn, I received a drop spindle as a gift and soon realised that spinning my own fibre gave me the opportunity to create the yarns I really wanted in unique fibre blends, colours and weights.
“I was soon fascinated by the mechanics of spinning and hooked on the feel of fabulous fibres and yarns. Now an avid spinner and member of both the Sunshine Coast Spinners and Weavers Guild and Sunshine Coast Fibreshed.”
Want to try your hand at spinning your own yarn? Here are the details on Verna’s upcoming workshop:
Date: Sept. 17 & Sept 24
