Whether you plan to self-publish your writing or to send it to a publisher or agent, it first should be edited. Even if you hire an editor, a round of self-editing will make that person’s job easier—and less costly—and it will strengthen your writing voice. This workshop will show you how to unify your manuscript, streamline its language, and eliminate errors. The workshop looks at substantive editing, stylistic editing, copy editing, and voice development. Participants are asked to bring two double-spaced copies of three to five pages of their work. There will be a short take-home exercise to complete between sessions 1 and 2.
Elizabeth Rains has taught editing for close to 20 years and currently teaches in the Editing Certificate Program at Simon Fraser University. She was editorial director of Pacific Rim Magazine. She has edited novels, non-fiction books, news articles, and magazine articles. Her second book, Demon in My Blood, will be published by Greystone Books in May 2017.
